Want to Sell Your Home? Do These 12 Things First!

Are you thinking about selling your home? Great! Now it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work!

Selling your home, as you might’ve guessed, takes a lot more than simply putting up a “For Sale” sign, crossing your fingers, and hoping for the best.

So, to help you get the home selling process started on the right foot, here’s a quick little checklist of things you can do. If you need help with any (or all!) of these, give me a call at (510) 304-2121 and I’ll gladly help.

What to do before selling your home:

  1. Find yourself a great real estate agent—one who will take as much ownership over the sale of your home as you.
  2. Clean up and declutter those living areas.
  3. Make sure you’ve optimized your home’s curb appeal.
  4. Repaint your walls—preferably to neutral tones.
  5. Depersonalize your home by getting rid of family photos, personal items, etc.
  6. Touch up scuff marks, chipped baseboards, and anything else that doesn’t look great, but can easily be fixed.
  7. Repair loose handles, replace lightbulbs, and make sure you don’t have any leaky faucets.
  8. Add flowers and other greenery to the inside of your home.
  9. Make sure the home smells nice!
  10. Hide your valuables.
  11. CLEAN!!!
  12. Consider hiring a staging service instead of showing the home completely empty.
